SAN ANTONIO, TX, Thursday, September 5, 2019 — Brick Gallery is excited to announce the upcoming exhibition, Looking for the Woman of My Dreams: and Other Microaggressions, a solo exhibition featuring San Antonio-based artist Libby Rowe. The exhibition will host public receptions during First Thursday, September 5th and First Friday, September 6th.

Libby Rowe’s body of work explores ideas of identity and belonging through self-definitions as informed by social and domestic constructs. In Looking for the Woman of My Dreams: and Other Microaggressions, Rowe applies similar concepts through a collection of photographs, drawings and video work which chronicle herd experiences in the dating realm.

Through the collection you see the actions of men blindly and aggressively searching for something that doesn’t exist — their own version of the perfect woman. In Rowe’s video installation, Looking for the Woman of My Dreams, we find instances of men asking specific questions, often tied to the importance of certain body parts. In one video still, Rowe has placed a message bubble reading “You Look Great! May I ask about your calves?” In response, Rowe places the message bubble over what could be a response image of only a person’s calves, one foot placed against the other shin, in front of a bed.
